Welcome to CityTime version 3.1Released October 23, 2000CityTime is an advanced world clock which shows an accurate and easy to use day/night plot on the screen. The plot adjusts throughout the day as the earth rotates, and changes shape with the seasons as the earth tilts north and south relative to the sun.The program includes one hundred and thirty default cities and these are fully customisable allowing for the display of the current time in any city in the world. With the release of version 2.6, a large collection of cities can now be imported from easily accessible data files provided online.CityTime also has advanced time utility functions such as the Time Calculator, the ability to work out sunrise and sunset times for cities throughout the world and a unique Change Location option which allows you to adjust the Palms date and time automatically when traveling between cities.____Color CityTimeCityTime ships in two versions, a color version and the original black and white version. The features of both versions of the program are the same and both versions will run on all devices running Palm OS version 2.0 or greater. The color version will work in color on color devices or in varying levels of grayscale on non color devices (depending on the devices grayscale capability). This download package includes two folders, ÒBWÓ and ÒColorÓ. The folders contain the install files for the black and white and color versions repectively.____InstallationCityTime has been designed so that it is easy to install and update. There are no installation or setup programs required either to install or upgrade CityTime. The default database is automatically created when the program is first run or if the database is. This automatic database creation facility also allows CityTime to be beamed to other devices. The file is normally transferred over the Internet as a compressed Ô.zipÕ file should be decompressed automatically by most browsers. The decompressed file required to either install or upgrade the program is called ÔCityTime.prcÕ. You should select either the black and white or color version to install as appropriate.- New Installation: The CityTime.prc file can be installed by choosing ÔInstall Handheld FilesÕ from the Palm Desktop program or the HotSync Manager program. The file can also be dragged onto either of these programs. The file will be installed on the device during the next HotSync. - Existing Installation. The program is updated in the same way as it is originally installed. All versions of CityTime can be installed over the top of any existing version. All database and registration information will be automatically updated if required from previous versions. There is no need to delete any files before upgrading the product. If you are having problems installing the program, please see the support section at our web site (www.codecity.net) for more detailed information.____Getting StartedThe operation of CityTime should be fairly straightforward. Detailed help text is provided to explain every area of the program and can be accessed either by tapping on the (i) button in any dialog, or by choosing ÔHelpÕ from the menu on the main screen. The first thing to do is to ensure that your home city is set correctly so that the day night plot and remote city times will be accurate. When the program is first run it will ask you to select your current home city. If you canÕt find a suitable city, choose one thatÕs nearby, or at least in the same time zone. You can always return to this screen later by choosing ÔSelect Home CityÕ from the Options menu. If required you can then go to the Edit Cities area and create, duplicate or import any new cities required. The best way to check that the home city is set correctly is by checking that the edge of the day/night plot passes over your home city when the sun is rising or setting outside. ____Useful Tips for Using the Program- To make city selection faster when a list of cities is displayed, write the first letter of the city in the Graffiti area to show cities beginning with that letter. For example, to find London quickly, write an ÔLÕ in the Graffiti area.. - Use the hardware up and down buttons to make navigating through the lists of cities easier. This is easier and much faster than tapping the on screen up and down arrows.- Tapping on the home city name and time (in the top right corner of the screen) will show the current day and date in your home city for a few seconds.- Tapping anywhere on the map will show the time, day of week and the current DST state in the nearest City.- Star shaped indicators will appear throughout the program to indicate that a city is currently in Daylight Savings Time. Cities can have either manual or automatic DST settings and all of the default (and import) cities which use DST will update their DST state automatically throughout the year. Further information can be found in the help areas in the Edit Cities screens within the program.- While getting familiar with reading the day / night plot keep in mind that the plot always moves gradually from right to left (as the earth rotates East). For example, if the dark area of the plot is just to the left of a city, this means that the sun has recently risen in that area. With practice you can get a good estimation of the time anywhere in the world just by referring to the day/night plot.- Throughout the program (except the main screen), additional help can be found by clicking on the (i) icon in the top right corner of any window. Main Screen help is available from the 'Help' menu option.- The day night plot changes shape throughout the year as the rotation axis of the Earth changes relative to the Sun. Twice a year (at the equinoxes near the end of September and March) the plot will be perfectly square for a short time (We get lots of bug reports every six months when this happens!). The plot will move gradually north and south each day between these times. ____Registering the ProgramCityTime can be easily registered online via the ÔRegisterÕ link on the front page of our web site at; http://www.codecity.netIf you register online you will immediately receive an extension key which will extend the trial period of the program by ten days.
