Short instructions
Using Launcher
X is equally easy as using Laucnher III. There are some diffeerences and new
features and I'll try to describe them here.
Launcher X will make itself as a default application launcher when you start it for the first time. If you decide not to use it as your default launcher, use the Exit Launcher X menu item.
Launcher X Preferences
Launcher X Preferences menu option brings the preferences screen which has three sections.
In the General section choose (among some other things) the look of LX, refresh options and directories LX will scan. There will be more options in the next beta.
The Gadgets section is used to arranging the gadgets. The bottom of this screen displays the current gadget status. The upper part has a block of available gadgets you can choose from, and scroll arrows (shown and hidden as necessary). Tap on a gadget in that block and chose the position on the gadget bar where you want to place it. Choose None to remove that gadget from the gadget bar.
The Homer section does nothing in theis beta of LX.
Application categories.
To edit application categories, use the Edit Category List menu item.
Ordering categories is easy with big up/down arrows located above the list in the right corner.
To edit selected category, tap on the Edit button, or tap on in the desired category row under the ICON column. To hide or unhide a category, tap under the HIDE column.
You can assign an icon to each category. To do that, just tap on the desired icon. To remove the icon, tap on the empty icon in the icon block.
Manual App Placement option has no effect for now.
Just like in Launcher III, drag an application to the tab where you want to move it. If a skin you use has no tabs (like the included Basique skin), drag an app to the category selector.
There is another way to change application's category. Tap on it and hold the pen down for 0.7 seconds or more and you'll get a list of all categories. Choose the one where you want to move the app.
You can modify the current category by tapping on its tab (like in Launcher III).
Gadgets
Gadget bar is displayed at the bottom of the screen. There are two triangular buttons in the lower corners of the gadget bar. The left one is the Homer button and is inactive in this beta. With the button in the right corner, you can hide and show the gadget bar.
Gadgets work like in Launcher III - drag an app to a gadget to invoke some action on that app, or tap on a gadget.
If the gadget bar is hidden, drag an app to the bottom of the screen and the gadget bar will be temporarily diplsyed so you can use it. When you lift the pen, LX will hide the gadget bar.
Trash-can and Info gadgets look and work in the same way as those in Launcher III. I'm working on new and advanced functionality which you'll see in the next beta.
Card Tools gadget has completely new functions. When you tap on it, a complete file browser will be started. LX Browser can move/copy/delete and beam files from RAM to card and back, or from card to card. You can also rename files sored on the card.
